God Jul fra Norge!

Hei from Norway everyone!
Well I have almost been in this beautiful, frosty and strange food loving country for a whole week and I have enjoyed every moment! CC's family is warm and welcoming and I feel as if I have known them my whole life. It gets light here about 10;00 am and dark about 4ish, very strange to wake up and it's still dark. When it does get light it's very beautiful, with a anazing view of mountains and ocean, I wish you all could see it too :)

My journey here however was not as nice as I would have hoped...I spent in total 20 hours traveling! I left Thornbury about 6:30 am last Tuesday with Daniel and a very heavy suitcase. I arrived in Bristol about half past seven and left on the 8:00 am coach to Heath row, and this time my driver was much kinder and helpful. I got to Heathrow at half past ten and managed to check my bag (which was 3 Kg over..oops!) and go through all security points in a half hour, giving me six and a half hours to sit a wait for my flight to Oslo!!! I must say it was the most boring six and a half hours of my life, I had to sit and wait to find out what gate my plane would leave from and I only found out 45 before I was to fly!
My flight was short and I slept through most of it, only waking once because the guy next to me kept trying to chat me up. He turned out to be form L.A. Visiting a friend in Oslo and was fart to interested in my life for my comfort. Once in Oslo I quickly went through the line got my passport stamped with a nice Norwegian stamp and got my bag. I then had to got back up to the second floor re check my bag and find my gate, which was very easy and quick. I then sat at what I thought was my gate for about 2 hours, then I looked at the flight listings and saw that if I didn't change gates soon I would fly to some place couldn't even pronounce! Turned out they had changed my gate at the last minute! I had to walk for ten minutes in order to find the new gate, by this point I was thinking I would never get to Molde at all! I however did and was so excited to land at Molde's very tiny airport and give CC a very long hug followed by squeals of excitement from both of us. CC, Roy and CC's older sister Stine were all there to greet me and help me with my heavy bag.
We drove for about 10 minutes to CC's warm and inviting home, where I was told where I would sleep, and shortly did, and in the nicest bed I have slept in in all these months! Now CC's turn...

CC:
I was not out of school yet, so the day after we didn't do very much. Ilaria... It must have been a good bed, because when I came home during my break to watch the "best" show ever (Days of our lives) you were still sleeping!
Anyways, later that day we were invited to a friend of mine, Elisabeth.
We were about 9 people there and we ate "kakemenn", Christmas candy and we drank "julebrus" (Ilaria loved it!) and "gløgg" while watching the polar express.
I think my friends were a bit afraid to talk English so some of them were quiet the whole night but still, it was cozy. Don't you agree Ilaria?

Ilaria:
Yes I must say I had a great time that night! Also during that day, while you were at school, Roy and I dressed in all our winter clothing took your sweet dog Kaizer for a walk to a small park by your house. I really love this park because it has a very nice view of the sea and mountains. It was nice to just have time to go for a walk and talk to Roy who I had not seen in about four months. Then that night it was very, very nice to meet CC's friends and have a mini Norwegian experience, it really was a cozy and enjoyable night!

Roy and Kaizer:

The View:

Roy:
Hello!!!!!
so I'm writing a blog... the park is very nice and I'm sure that most of my pictures will be of it. They also have world war 2 monuments in the lower part of the park. Which for me is very exciting because I love history and I haven't been to Europe before. Its is a very good experience!!! It's good to see Ilaria and I haven't seen Cc (my girlfriend) in about 6 months!!! so it is the best feeling! Its a mix of being nervous, anxious, very happy and a touch scared all at the same time. I'm sure Cc and Ilaguar!! would agree on there own situation.

CC:
Yeah, I like that park too... The day after was my last day at school. I woke up early to eat breakfast with my class but we agreed they day before that we were going to pick up you and Roy so we could go to the Christmas show that my school had set up together. We came a bit late so we didn't find seats together but it worked out well after all. I thought the concert was amazing! There were a couple of people that had such a powerful voice that I had goosebumps all over me. The hosts were very funny too, even though you guys didn't understand what they were saying, I think you managed to catch some words. The ending performance was "O fortuna" from Carmina Burana.. Very nice! I enjoyed it a lot. After the concert I knew that we had about 30 minutes to kill before Ilaria was getting her Christmas present from my family and I. At that time Ilaria didn't know anything about what it was. She figured it out after spending 10 min in a hair salon because I told her I wanted to "look at a hair straightener". While we were waiting for Ilaria to get her hair done, Roy decided to get his hair done too. They both looked very nice when they were done.

Ilaria's new hair: (mum don't hate me I went dark...:))

Ilaria:
Yes I must say your school has a lot of talent! I was very impressed by many of the performances and the hosts added a very nice element..even if I didn't understand what they were saying, but who wouldn't laugh at a man in a a red silk dress?
The best part of the day was my Christmas present, I was very surprised and grateful! My hair was in need of some serious love, and I really needed a change, so thank you very, very much to you and your amazing family for the perfect present!

I also had fun while Roy was getting his cut because you and I did some shopping and did a bit of catching up, which I have missed very much! Then when Roy was finished, his hair looking very smart, we went back to your house to relax and chat and later we had a very Norwegian supper with your family.

Roy:yeah... but when Ilaguar was getting her hair done i had nothing to do cause Cc had to be back there with her to translate.... SO!!!!!!!!!!!! I walked to the store (bunnpris) and bought some cold beverages!!! I found something to do...!!! then I got my hair cut... the school performance was very very good and they sang songs that I knew as well. I didn't think that they would. every dinner is very good here I'm going to go home and ask my parents... what the hell is this stuff???!! every day till they listen.

CC:
Nice Roy...anyhow...
The next day was not all that exciting. I woke up with a fever and didn't feel good at all. But after taking some medicine we decided to go to the mall to do some shopping. Later that day we had a huge feast. At least it felt like it. It was raclette, a bit like fondue but better! There is a mini oven in the middle of the table and everyone has their own little pan that you put potatoes, cheese, onions, peppers and meat in to cook! It's really good and I think everyone was very full after eating.

Ilaria:
Although you felt sick we still had a nice day and that meal was soooooooooooooo good! I had a lot of fun that night chatting with your family and eating yummy food!It so strange how I feel like I have known them for years...:)
Now CC will tell you a bit about Saturday!

CC:
My family has also said that it feels like they have known you for several years!
On Saturday we had planned to go to the island were my mom grew up and chop down our Christmas tree. Roy had left early at like 7 in the morning to go hunting with my sister's boyfriend and my brother. We left at like 11 and of course I was driving the entire way...:D Ilaria and I wore UGG's so it wasn't so tempting to walk around in the forest were you suddenly could fall into a mud hole. My uncle and dad told us to just stay at the big stone so they could go by themselves. They found several candidates, so they chopped it down and then we left for my uncle's house for some coffee and Christmas bread. Amund (Stine's boyfriend), Sigve(my brother) and Roy also came to the house without having slaughtered some bambi's (thank god!). Horrible way to say, I know.
Later that day when we came home to Molde again, we relaxed for an hour and then we left for dinner. We had reserved tables at my work, which is a pizza restaurant, and my uncles, aunt, sisters, brother, parents and cousins joined with us. We had a very good time and I think they all agreed that the pizza was good.
Roy followed Amund (my sister's boyfriend) to a bar where they met some friends of theirs and had a beer. Ilaria and I rented a movie instead. "I know who killed me". It was a weird movie with a bad ending to it. Oh well.
Today (Sunday) We have been cleaning all day. Ilaria and Roy have been very nice and helped a lot! We're going to decorate the tree today and I'm pretty we're going to have porridge with the competition of finding the almond first.
Also one of our Christmas traditions...

Ilaria: Yes I must say what a nice day we had on the Island with your family! I really liked meeting them all and your grandmother was so sweet! Then when we all went out for dinner was a real treat, the food was good and the conversations nice, I can't wait for tomorrows Christmas feast! Now something from Roy about the hunt...

Roy: the slaughtering of the Bambi did not go as planned... in fact we didn't get anything . we had our chance but amund!!!! missed a deer from about 10 meters away with!!! a shotgun!!! That's a little suspicious if you ask me.... how does that happen?? he had a shot gun!!!! oh well... but the hunt was very fun... i was cold and a little bored for the first 3 hours cause i was laying on the ground in a field waiting for the Bambi to show itself. well in short it never did!

Ilaria: Well although you didn't kill Bambi it sounds fun, and in a way I'm happy, poor Bambi's!
Well anyway here are some photo's from Saturday:

Ilaria:
So far I have had a wonderful time here in Norway, CC's family is very sweet and joy to be with! To my family they send God Jul greetings and love.
I'm looking forward to Christmas and New Years with them all, should be something I shall never forget. At the moment we are cleaning up the house, about to decorate the tree, and then try and find the almond! So I better go, but stay tuned for more on my stay here in Molde...there is a lot to come!
Cheers and God Jul to you all!
Love,
~Ilaria, CC, Roy, Astrid, Odd Tore, Stine, Sunny, Sigve, and Kaizer

P.S. Grandma and Grandpa thank you so much for my Christmas Package, I loved it!

December

Hey everyone, so it's December at last and I'm so excited for the upcoming holiday! So I thought I would give you an update on the few events I mentioned in my last post: Well Saturday night in Bristol was not as great as we all thought but we did it for Manuel's 20Th birthday. The club was very dirty I mean come on can't someone clean it once in a while?! my shoes were sticking to the floor and a very drunk girl ran into me spilling my newlly purchased drink all over me costing me £3 and my new top!! By the end of night I was sticky and tired but happy because I was with all my friends laughing and goofing around.
Then Sunday (Manuels actual birthday) Sabine and I made a great cake for him and blew up about 40 balloons! It was a very fun day, but we were a bit down without Shamick there, it just was not the same with out his smiling face and him telling us that he "likes our wrinkles".The house is very quiet without him and it really feels like there is this empty feeling sometimes. Back to Sunday....great day, laughter, food and loads of funny pictures..the best!
Manule covered in balloons!

The cake!

Jana and Sabine:

Ok so also on Saturday we spent the whole day scrubbing every inch of the house for the inspection that is currently happening!!! Ive been so nervous all week and thank god I had today off! So far it's gone well, I think that Park Lodge is the cleanest and most put together out of all the houses, we do a very good job, I mean I clean the boys bathroom everyday!!! I'll let everyone know when we get the report back from the inspectors, but all should be ok... I think!
Today I had another nice day off, I lied in had a nice breakfast and did a bit of Christmas shopping! also today was Nicholas, so last night we all put our shoes out and this morning Bella was up very early and almost ate all of our treats but thanks to Sabine, who was there a bit early as well it didn't happen. It was so sweet just like at home with chocolate and nuts and an orange, made me miss my mum and brother very much, Noah and Mason you should let me know what you got this morning!
I can't believe it's only 8 days till holiday, till we move and till I got to Norway...Seems like these past 5 weeks went by so quickly. I hope everything works out well when we come back and have to move to Tyndale, I'm not very excited at the moment and my room is such a tip because all I'm thinking is I have to pack it all up anyway!
Other that being down about Shamick and moving everything here is great, I'm so happy working here, it may not always be easy but it's so worth it!
I would like so give many thanks and big hugs and kisses to the Portland Gilespies and Grammy for my wonderful Christmas package!! I was so surprised when I got it, it really made my day, it was really was so nice of you all! Love to all of you and expect Christmas cards soon :)
Well I got to go, but thought I would also share some new photo's, there from Swimming with class 7:

Daniel and Kathryn...so sweet!

well keep staying tuned and I'll keep posting!

My wonderful day off...and tomorrow is December 1st!!

Hey everyone, so yesterday was my day off!! I had decided that I would go for a long walk to Oldbury Church also known as "the little church on top of the little hill". It's about 3 1/2 miles from Thornbury, and a beautiful walk through country roads. I felt like Eliza Bennett walking through the mud and sunshine today, I really got a chance to clear my head and do a bit of thinking. When I got to the church I was so excited because it over looks the river Severn (divides England and Wales)and it was such a nice day so the view was amazing and I wasn't too cold up on the hill. So I thought I might share some great photo's of the river, the view and what I saw along the way..:)
I'm doing very well, super excited for my upcoming holiday which I will share with CC and her wonderful family. I can't wait to have a Norwegian Christmas and explore CC's city (or is it more of town?). Tomorrow is Silke's birthday so we are all giving her a framed group photo of us, so that she can remember the short but great time she had with us. We are still very sad about having to move, but we don't have a choice really, so we decided maybe change is good. Except one thing, we just found out that it's very likely Shamick will be leaving us to move to another house here and we are getting Martin instead. We all like Martin very much, but it will be such a hard thing for us not to have Shamick in our house. He brings so but light and laughter to our lives, all the children do, and we don't want to have this change. It's not for sure yet, but more than a 50% chance, so when I return from Norway I think I will have a lot of readjusting to do.
I'll let everyone know in about two weeks what will happen, hopefully it's a good change not a bad one.
This weekend it's also the Start of Advent, so Sunday we will have an advent spiral in the hall for the children and their families (I'll try and get photo's!) Sunday is also Manuel's Birthday, so Saturday night we are all going to Bristol to celebrate!!! Another thing is that yesterday we started rehearsal for the Christmas school play, and I'm Eve (I really get to eat an apple, funny I know!). It's a very funny/ fun process because everyone is involved and the children are so cute!
I'll make sure to get photo's and share them with you!
Well got to go, I'll keep giving you updates and you keep tuning in!

cheers,
and well wishes
-Ilaria
P.S. sorry it's not a long post, I'm just very tired but happy!

BIG NEWS!!!!

OK so I thought I should let everyone know that last night we found out we have to moving to a new house here in Sheiling. Silke has decided and was also told it was time to take sometime off after 30 year (god bless her!).I understand, but I'm very sad because me and my other park Lodge co workers are getting a new house mom and new rooms, and we just got comfortable here...I'm very happy at park lodge (even if my room is tiny) and I don't want to move to Tyndale (smells funny...)!!! I'll give you more of an update soon, and we will move in three weeks, when the children leave for the holiday. I'm so sad now.....miss everyone!
cheers,
Ilaria

Sorry It's been so long...I have loads to tell you all...

Hello everyone,
Sorry it's been about three weeks, but I've been so busy.
Well first off, I'm sick again, they tell me it's a sinus infection (Fun...). I'm over the worst and was back on my feet today after two days stuck in my tiny room (as to contain the infection I'm told, is it not contain already? in my bleeding head, lord help me.)Although I did finish one book and started another one, so I guess I can't be mad, Silke is like temp mother, and thank god she tells you to drink your tea and stay in bed (otherwise I wouldn't...).
So second thing: Last week I got very lucky and on my day off joined the wonderful class 7 for a day trip to Bristol to see the S.S. Great Britain.
I had so much fun with them all just exploring the old ship and taking loads of photo's. All together it was Pankaj (their teacher, and the worlds most awesome at that.) David Jones (Welsh, Awesome, the woodwork teacher and the driver + tour guide for the day, bless him.) Ryan, Afsarah, George, Kathryn, Anna, Paula (our new co worker, but only here till December 14Th) and I. It was a great group and the day turned out beautiful, and I was so glad I spent the day with them all.

Class 7:

Fourth thing, and the most important, today is THANKSGIVING.
OK so I had the best day ever, I got up early feeling much better, had a nice big cup of coffee and some Swiss Muesli. Then Tracy showed up about half nine and we started cooking. I must say it was really the best day off Ive had so far, it was Anna (sike's daughter and now a very good friend)Tracy and I all the kitchen for three and a half hours straight. We made Turkey (of course) gravy, Grandmas Cornbread Stuffing (which I made all by myself.) green beans, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes (with Cream cheese, mmmm yummy) rosemary carrots, and red cabbage salad. It was such a nice meal, and I don't think I've ate that much in the past two months. It was a U.S. Thanksgiving with an English Twist, and the stuffing was the best part, everyone loved it and I was so happy because I had to improvise with the cornbread (bloody Tescos doesn't know what cornmeal is.). In the end it worked and I was very pleased with myself, the whole meal was a success really thanks to Tracy and Anna.
Etta came to lunch as well, and she was born in the states and knows what it's like to miss you family at this time and brought me some beautiful white roses as a thanks for making a "wonderful" meal. It was nice to share a family tradition with other, and to share it with someone who understood it as well, so I had a wonderful mini Thanksgiving. Although I with I was there today with everyone I love and miss so much , but I don't think I shall ever forget this, because it's the first year I made my own Thanksgiving meal, Turkey and all.
So I hope everyone is having a lovely day, enjoying each others company, good food and laughter. I decided that this year I'm grateful for the love and support my family has provided me with while I'm over here, and that with out them I would not be here. So a very huge thank you to my large and loving family back home, I miss you all.

The Fiest:

The Stuffing I made...mmmm...Yummmy!

Don't you just want to eat it?!

So I also had a nice weekend, Heath was back in town so we all went to Bristol Saturday night to go clubbing. For those who don't know who Heath is he is the son of the house parents from Thornbury Park. He is crazy, but way awesome and a blast to be with, so you can see why we had to go out?. It was a great night, and we went to this tiny Greek pub on Park Street, and danced the night away, it was a wonderful night and it was so nice to get out after two weeks of straight work.
I took so nice photos of Anna (the German one and also a great new friend) and I :

So other then my annoying cold that is slowly going away, Ive been great. The past three weeks have been very enjoyable and the next holidays are just around the corner.
The weather is mostly cloudy and rainy, but other days it's sunny and clear and frost covers the ground. On these days I walk with Joe to town all bundled up in my warm jacket and my hands shoved into fuzzy gloves, it's nice to get out and get a bit of fresh air.

The Feild I see out my bedroom window...all frosty!

Well I got to go, but I hope you are all in good health and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Miss you all very much,
Kisses to my friends and family
Cheers,
Ilaria

P.S. I also forgot to mention that Me and Joe are getting on great, not yet smooth as honey but getting there. We go for walks to town, chat, watch movies, and even bake beautiful cakes, he really is one of the most clever kids here!

Back to the daily grind....

Well, this week it was back to work for us co workers, we had a lovely holiday filled with relaxation, beautiful weather, yummy food, and traveling! So as much as we love the children, we were sad to leave our new routine, but we did sign up for this after all! The best part was Shamick coming back, Sunday afternoon he and his parents arrived, and Anna and I ran outside yelling "Favorite!" and "we missed you!" He really is a sweet boy and so funny! The hardest part is waking up at 7 am again, I was so used to sleeping till half 11 or 12! Today however because it was my day off I slept till 11, and had a nice late breakfast of a bowl of Muesli with soy milk, one rye cracker with organic Australian honey on it and a nice hot cup of coffee mmm... yummy my favorite!
I'm not up too much just working hard, and I'm feeling wonderful, I really like it here! England is so amazing, extremely beautiful and Thornbury is such a cute town and everyone is so friendly!
This week has been a bit tough, mostly because the children have been out of routine for the past two weeks, and are therefore more difficult. Shamick is very nervous (almost pulled Jana's hair again), and Bella is being very naughty, always late for meals and very moody! Hopefully by next week things should be easier and less exhausting for us all. The biggest thing that happened this week was that the school (not the houses) had an inspection, this I think also effected the children, because they pick up emotions very easily! So all the tension in the air (which ended yesterday, with rave reviews from the inspectors!)along with having to go back to a routine has made for one crazy week around here. So I'm very exhausted but happy as well, it's nice having everyone back (co workers and students)makes life just a bit more interesting!
OK well tomorrow is Marks birthday ( a co worker from Germany, and very sweet!) so Anna and I are going to make him a cake, and bring him balloons tomorrow!
Not much else to report, but id anything happens I'll let you all know!
Miss you all,
Cheers,
Ilaria
P.S. Can people please send me letters? I would be so happy :)

Saturday night...and Sunday Morning.....

Well Last night about 7:30 we all climbed on the bus and went to Bristol to go....Clubbing!! At last we did it....and let me say it was a crazy, weird, fun, and very silly night! So we got to Bristol about ten past 8 and then waited for a couple friends of Sabine and Katharinas who are working at the Saint Christopher's school in Bristol. It was three guys Sev, Phillip, and Marco, and thank god for them too, because they knew where to go! Well this was a good but funny thing really because... we ended up going to a gay club, because Sev and Philip were both gay. No one realized this till they told us, but once we found out we were all laughing, and figured "Why not?!" I have to admit I had a really good time getting to know all three of them, and the club turned out top be very cool, and poor Marco got hit on by so many guys, and had to keep telling them..."so you know I'm not gay? but thanks for the offer!" ahh he was so cute, and single(and wants to now come visit me:)!
Sev is now my new favorite person and said that I need to move to Germany and study with him next year! He said that he loves Americans, and now that he knows me loves them even more ( I think this is because I told him I hate Bush! hahha)
I had a blast making new friends, dancing, and enjoying the Bristolian night life! The only odd bit was that we discovered they have outdoor urinals!!! Just right there on the street corner, not very proper if you ask me, but good for a laugh!! The only bad bit was that me Jana, her boyfriend Josh and Anna all had to pay £30 for a taxi!!! I'm never doing that again, it's far too expensive if you ask me!
So After some harsh words with our Taxi driver we all stumbled into bed (from exhaustion, not because I was "Tanked!") about half past 2 in the morning!
I didn't wake up till about half past noon today, then did a bit of cleaning, laundry, and then tonight around 6pm I'm going to Church with Pascal! Don't worry I'm not converted :) tonight at Saint Mary's there's a choir singing, so we both thought it would be nice, considering we both love old cathedrals!
Well I'm off, got to go re heat a pie I made last night and fill up the coffee pot for my other wonderful co workers!
Miss you all,
xoxoxox
Cheers,
Ilaria
P.S. no I did not take any photo's...sorry loves!

Day two....BRISTOL!

Well good news everyone I'm feeling much better today and the sun is shining!
Yesterday I had a another amazing day trip and this time to Bristol! I've been before but I didn't really get to see everything I wanted to, so luckily the co workers who didn't fly home to Germany for holiday, wanted to go as well! Katharina, Sabine, Julia, Antone, Passcal and I left Thornbury about 9:30 on surprisingly full country bus headed for the heart of Bristol. We stepped off the bus into the crisp bristolian air about 10:15, and went in search of old streets to wonder through in hopes of finding old treasures long forgotten. We had such a great day full of laughter, picture taking, and exploration. We visited the national museum, the university, the abby, the tower and the St. Nicholas market.
The best part was when we all got lunch and sat on the college green talking and joking around...I really feel like I'm becoming friends with all these people! Then after lunch we all went in the tower, which was built by queen Victoria for Sebastian Cabot who helped discover North America (of all places!). we climbed these very tiny stairs up to the most amazing view in the world, Bristol is so beautiful when the sun is out, the whole city glows!
Then we did a bit of shopping (by this I mean I just looked longingly at things I wanted to buy...) and then me a julia split form the group and walked around taking photo's and chatting (what we do best!). We unfortunately missed the bus and had to wait an hour till the next one came at ten till 7...we didn't get back to Thronbury till 8 and by that time the sun had gone down and we were freezing and my nose was running profusely!
All together the day was wonderful and we all had so much fun, I wish you all could have seen it!
well I'm off to do a bit of laundry,
love you all,
cheers
Ilaria
P.S. I think I'm going to Stroud tomorrow...maybe...:)

Holiday at last...and I have a cold!!!!

Hey Friends and Family,
Well it's my first holiday and I have managed to get a lovely head cold, runny nose and all! Although Im sick I still plan on doing a bit of traveling, Yesterday was amazing because Thornbury Park,Sabine and I all went to BATH!!! We woke up about 8:30 Sunday morning and about 9:00 loaded ourselves in the very cute white mini bus that is owned by the school. We then drove about 45min or so through beautiful sunny countryside till Peter Stevenson (Thronbury parks house father, and a very lovely man as well) said "look out the window everyone and welcome to Bath!" We all looked out to see a beautiful city settled nicely in the river valley of Avon, it was the most amazing thing I have ever seen! So mum its official we need to get very rich and move there!!! I fell in love with all of it, it was the most beautiful day blue sky and sun!
I felt like someone had dropped me in the 1800's, we spent most of the day wondering the old streets taking pictures and laughing about all the large flashy red tour buses people had loaded themselves on for what they consider a "tour"!
Then me and Himonie split from the group to grab some lunch and sit in the beautiful Parade park that sat on the river Avon! Then we headed up to the famouse Bath Abby to look around, it was buitl in 1499! This was so amazing, a must see if you ever go to Bath!
It really was a magical day and one I will not forget!
So although Im blowing my nose ever two minutes, and I feel very groggy, Bath was worth it!
So I have two weeks to relax, have fun and see some some sights of jolly old England!
I miss you al very much and wish that you were here to see all of this with me,
Cheers,
Ilaria
